You might not have the ability to donate eight thousand dollars to build a well. But so what? We’re not asking one person to do it. We’re asking communities. We’re asking churches.

Suppose you’ve got seven hundred people in your church. Go and talk to them about building a well. Tell them how eight thousand dollars will change a community of fifteen hundred people. A well will erase ninety percent of diseases in that community. With a well, that community will flourish.

Someone in that church is going to give you five hundred dollars. Someone else will give you twenty-five dollars. Eventually, I’ll bet within two months, you can raise eight thousand dollars. And now your church can take care of a community of people.

You can do that. That’s a possibility. A very easy possibility.

Our REACH campaign takes a similar approach. It’s all about involving as many people as possible. It’s like a car. A car has a lot of different parts. Even a car’s engine has a lot of different parts. Maybe you’re a spark plug, and maybe you’re not. You might be the fuel that causes the spark. Or you might be the radiator that’s cooling the engine. Or you might be the timing belt, or one of the wheels going round and round.

And no single part is better than another. Everything has to be working right for the car to get from point A to point B.

We don’t want anybody to be the whole car. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-6) That’s the point of REACH. When you join REACH, you’re linked up all the way around.

Corporate sponsors are a good deal, but we can make a much bigger dent when we have a whole community helping. We can do a lot more damage to poverty and suffering.

So we don’t ask for a thousand dollars each. Twenty dollars a month is affordable for a lot of people. Your $20 a month helps buy school uniforms. You give kids the ability to learn. You give them the ability to become educated. Because of you, they can dream. Because of you, they can dream really big dreams. They can set goals and accomplish them. They can become leaders. They can help change the world.

And at the same time, you’re participating in the whole project. You’re participating in the well digging. You’re participating in Feed the Hunger. You’re participating in Not For Sale. You’re helping orphans get homes and families.

A lot of people might think, well, my $20 isn’t going to do all that. Yes it is! By joining REACH, you become part of Generation Alive. You’re part of our group. You’re part of our society that does those things. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12:27)

A whole lot of people doing a little bit, that’s my vision. See you Friday.

  1. So true! That’s the approach my husband and I try to take with life. Maybe we can change the entire world all at once, but we can do our part today and tomorrow and the next day. I’m so glad people are talking about this.
