The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Luke 4:18-19

Last time I described the nuts and bolts of our REACH campaign. The nuts and bolts are just a part of what I dream about.

I’ve got such a big dream. In my dream, our work over here helping restore life and health and hopes and dreams to kids over there reflects back over here. We’re not just bringing the Good News to others. We’re bringing it to ourselves.

The REACH program is about getting people involved. We’re trying to establish community. That’s why we wanted to have a campaign. Our Feed the Hunger campaign is ongoing. We’re always building wells, and of course we’re involved with Not For Sale. We help them rescue kids from traffickers, helping them be free to play and to dream.

A campaign gets a lot of people involved. We want to involve a whole lot of people. We’d rather have a ton of people giving $20.00 each than just a couple of big donors, like corporations, giving a couple of big donations. Kids can participate and parents can participate. Anyone can participate.

We’re going to start sending a monthly newsletter, so a donation of $20.00 means you’re helping somebody and you’re hearing from others that are helping. I’m going to contribute articles. Brant Christopher is helping us create the REACH program, and he’ll contribute to the newsletter.

Brant has musician buddies that like what we’re trying to do, so they’re going to get involved. Hopefully we can get some artists to contribute pictures of some of their paintings and drawings, and describe what they were thinking when they were doing their art, and hopefully we can hear from some businesspeople, and get their perspective on why they help.

I don’t want people to hear about what we’re doing with the REACH campaign and think, “Oh, it’s a baseball player so you can only really be a part of this if you like sports.” That’s not what I want to do.

I want to create a community of everyone. If you’re into sports, you’ll hear something. If you’re into music, you’ll hear something. If you’re into art, or business, or movies, or medicine, or engineering, you’ll hear something. You’ll be hearing from all kinds of different people in different scenarios.

Together we’ll proclaim the Gospel, the Good News. The Good News is for everyone, and that means it’s for us too. We’ll pull together and REACH out to help kids who won’t get by without us, and we’ll know, I mean really know what it feels like when the Spirit of the Lord is upon us.

There is so much love around when a lot of people come together to do a little bit. I’ll write about that next week. See you Tuesday.

  1. Outside of speaking in tongues, what are the visible signs that the Spirit of the Lord is upon us? I know what you’re talking about, because when I’m working for the sake of others, my fingers fly. But no one can detect that!
